  • Y5 Girls Fundraiser 12th December 2019

    Thu 28 Nov 2019 HB
Three girls in Y5 have been very proactive and are planning a fund-raising day to raise money for Parkinsons and Cancer Research. Cara Bell, Alice Bonsall and Lilia Minton have planned the whole day from scratch. They have made posters, discussed their ideas with Mrs Bell, selected a date and they are now in the process of drafting a letter to parents which Miss Gill will type. The girls have identified a day - 12th December 2019 - which will be a dress down day (wear blue) and we will attempt a sponsored silence during assembly! Please look out for their letter - this will also be uploaded to the website under whole school letters. The girls have decided that they would like people to donate a minimum of 50p (more if you would like) for dressing down and being silent. Please donate to this very worthy cause.

  • Tom Palmer visits school

    Thu 21 Nov 2019
We had a visit from an author, Tom Palmer on Tuesday 19th November. We started with an assembly and then he visited each of the classes in turn to talk about how he writes books. He has to do loads of research and he talks to many different people about the subject. He makes a scrap book about the characters and the plan for the story. It was really interesting and we all want to read some of his books!

They won every game, and didn't concede a single goal in the entire competition.

  • D and T Day - Tuesday 22nd October

    Thu 07 Nov 2019

A great day was had by all, as the children headed for the jungle on their D and T day!

For the day, the whole school worked together on a broad range of designing and making activities which involved a variety of techniques including designing, drawing, assembling and making. The day encouraged children to learn to think  creatively to solve problems both as individuals and as members of a team.

In each year group the children worked through five stages in varying degrees of detail. They were:

Background Research –Exploring context and existing products

Design–Understanding their intended users and their own product

Planning – Communicating ideas and creating prototypes for product

Making – Selecting the tools and applying the practical skills and techniques

Evaluation – Referring to planning and initial ideas in evaluating their product.

The children had some amazing end products, including: Outdoor shelters, leaver and pulley systems to climb jungle vines, jungle shelters and bridges through the jungle canopy.

    Well done to everyone!
