Late/Absence Procedures

OUR WHOLE SCHOOL TARGET for ATTENDANCE is 97%

Good Attendance and punctuality are vital if pupils are to achieve their maximum potential. We are committed to working with parents and carers to ensure that each pupil benefits from the opportunities that are available at Norton Free C of E School. If you are struggling, please contact the school.

We are required to keep a careful record of children's absences and forward the information to the Local Authority. The following are acceptable reasons for absence:

  • Sickness
  • Medical Appointments (please provide evidence)
  • Religious Observance (2 days in any academic year)
  • Family Bereavement

An application must be made in advance to the school if parents wish to take their children out of school during term time. Only in exceptional circumstances will the Head teacher consider authorising leave of absence.

Absence due to illness:

If your child is absent from school, a telephone call at the beginning of any absence is required. It is essential that you inform us of the reason for absence and failure to do so will result in an unauthorised absence being recorded.

Medical Appointments:

If your child has a medical appointment during the school day, they must be collected from and returned to, the School Office by a parent. They must also be signed out of and back into school by a member of staff from school in the Yellow folder in case of emergencies.

Application for Term Time Leave

Lateness:

Registers are taken between 8:50am and 9am. Any children arriving after 9am must  report to the School Office providing a reason for late arrival. They will be marked as late (L) in the register. Any child arriving after 9:20am will be marked as unauthorised (U). They should report to the School Office to be registered and to order their school meal before going to their classroom.

Attendance Awards:

An Attendance Award is presented to the class with the best attendance each week. The class retains the Attendance Trophy for the week. 100% attendance is rewarded with extra break for the whole class.
